Karl Cecil Allen was the son of James Franklin Allen (1858-1932)
and Laura L. (Hersey) Allen (b. 1866) of Arcadia, Yarmouth Co.,
NS
Karl enlisted at Halifax on January 26, 1918 as a Cadet with the Royal Flying Corps. He reported to the
Head Office in Toronto several days later. He was examined and turned down as a Cadet but told that a
mechanic was “just as good” and he would be overseas in a few weeks. He was sent to Texas, but none
of the mechanics were sent overseas.
He was promoted to 2nd Class in March 1918. He
requested a discharge to join the Canadian
Expeditionary Forces but was unable to obtain a
discharge.
He was discharged on January 6, 1919 at Toronto on
demobilization under Air Force Memo No.1 S Air
Ministry Cable 7061 (December 31, 1918).
