George Andrew Gavel 3187137 Private 1st Depot Battalion August 6, 1997 Argyle Head, Yarmouth Co., NS June 6, 1918 Aldershot, NS Argyle Head, Yarmouth Co., NS 20 5 feet, 8 inches Dark Blue Brown Single Farmer Baptist Ryder Gavel (Father) Argyle Head, Yarmouth Co., NS January 7, 1919 Halifax, NS June 30, 1979 Los Angeles, California, USA George Andrew Gavel was the son of Solomon Ryder Gavel (1852-1927) and Martha Lavinia (Pitman) Gavel. He was the brother of Arthur Chester Gavel (1893-1947) Ethel Gavel (1885- 1905), Lemuel Hobbs Gavel (1886-1988), Murray Ross Gavel (1889-1972), and Ada (Addie) Adams Gavel (1892-1989). George served with the 1st Depot Battalion in Canada during his enlisted period and was discharged on January 7, 1919 at Halifax. In 1919, George emigrated with his brother Arthur to the United States on October 17, 1919.
