Thelston Goodwin trained in Canada with the 40th Battalion from July 1915 through October 1915. He embarked Canada on October 18, 1915, sailing on the SS Saxonia from Quebec and arrived in England on October 28, 1915. On March 8, 1916 he embarked for France assigned to the 25th Battalion where he served until May 11, 1918. He returned to England suffering from tissue infection of the right axilla (space below the shoulder through which vessels and nerves enter and leave the upper arm) and was first hospitalized at the Whipps Cross War Hospital at Leytonstone. He was transferred to the Woodcote Park Military Convalescent Hospital at Epsom, Surrey, on June 14, 1918 and discharged on July 19, 1918. He was then posted to the 17th Reserve Battalion at Bramshott. He returned to Canada on January 9, 1919. On demobilization, Thelston returned to Argyle Sound. In 1922 he went to the United States and in 1930 he was living in Morris, New Jersey. He returned to Argyle Sound and on March 21, 1947 he married Wilhelmina Victoria Strickland (1904-1987) of Pubnico.
