Samuel Clifford Hood Captain Officer 85th Battalion No. 2 Construction Battalion April 24, 1885 Yarmouth, Yarmouth Co., Nova Scotia October 16, 1915 Halifax, NS Yarmouth, NS 30 5 feet, 9 ½ inches Medium Dark Blue Accountant, Bookkeeper Married Church of England Margaret Ferguson Hood (Wife) Yarmouth, NS May 24, 1919 (Halifax, NS) December 3, 1938 53 Mountain Cemetery, Yarmouth, NS Samuel Clifford Hood was the son of Samuel Campbell Hood (1849–1936), and Annie Ella (Elva) (Powell) Hood (1859–1932), and the husband of Margaret Ena (Ferguson) Hood . His father was a watchmaker and jeweller, born in Weymouth, Digby Co., NS. Samuel and Margaret had four children Samuel Clifford Hood (1910–1994), Jean Ferguson Hood (1914- 1982), Richard Ferguson Hood (1923–1977), and Margaret Vera Hood (1925–1985). Samuel served in the Militia with the 29th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery, in Yarmouth NS, prior to his enlistment in 1915. He served in Canada, England, and France with, the 63rd Regiment Halifax Rifles, the 85th Battalion as a Recruiter in Nova Scotia. He served as an Adjutant with the No. 2 Construction Battalion, No. 1 District, Central Group, Canadian Forestry Corps (CFC), 54th Company (CFC), the 42nd Company (CFC), 43rd Company (CFC), and the Nova Scotia Regiment Depot. At enlistment, Samuel’s Service Number was 222956 before being commissioned as an officer on August 12, 1916. He was promoted to Captain on March 6, 1917 and departed Halifax on March 25, 1917, arriving in Liverpool, England, on April 8, 1917. He disembarked in France on May 17, 1917, and served in France until December 10, 1918, when he returned to England. Captain Hood was discharged on May 24, 1919, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After the war Captain Hood was Officer Commanding of the 84th Independent Field Battery in Yarmouth until his death.
