Louis Joseph Roy trained in Canada and embarked Halifax for overseas disembarking at Liverpool, England
on September 22, 1916. He was transferred to the 3rd Canadian Railway Troops for service in France and
arrived in the field on March 11, 1917.
On September 3, 1917 he became ill, suffering from Pyrexia
(fever) of an undetermined cause, and was hospitalized both in
France and England. The condition, also referred to as ‘trench
fever’ continued into 1918, and unable to determine the cause
he was returned to Canada and hospitalized in April, 1918.
He was still suffering from pain in shoulders and legs and
