Michael Francis Campbell was the son of Ronald Francis Campbell (1921-1997), and Josephine (Robertson)
Campbell (1923-1963), who predeceased her son. He was the brother of Cora Anne Campbell (1944-1997),
Helen Theresa Murray (1950-2010), Dolores, Joan, Patricia, Robert, Joseph, Terry, and Ronald.
Michael attended Sacred Heart and Park Junior High Schools and was a member of No. 6 Medical Company in
Sydney, Cape Breton. At the age of seventeen, he left Cape Breton Island for a forestry job in Port Alberni,
British Columbia. While working in Port Alberni, he met his wife, Vicky, and later enlisted in the US Army.
Michael served with Company ‘B’ 2nd Battalion of the 327th Infantry Regiment; a unit of the 101st Airborne
Division in the US Army. With orders for Vietnam, Michael began his tour of duty in the war zone on January
21, 1968.
On April 26, 1968, during a search and destroy operation in Northern Quang Tri Province, PFC Michael Francis
Campbell was hit and killed by enemy rifle fire.
Michael Campbell is interred at the Greenwood Cemetery in Port Alberni, British Columbia.
A plaque above his grave marker is
