Commemorated on Page 73 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance Displayed in the Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower in Ottawa on February 18 Flight Sergeant Fitzgerald was the son of James O'Neill Fitzgerald and Nina Helen Fitzgerald, of Halifax, NS. Having completed training at No. 6 Bombing and Gunnery School, RCAF Station Mountain View, Ontario, he proceeded overseas in October 1941. On July 25, 1942, while serving with 15 RAF Squadron, Flight Sergeant Fitzgerald was killed when the aircraft (Stirling I W7576) flying out of RAF Wyton on air operations against Duisburg, crashed at Horst, Holland. Two other crew members were also killed. Four were taken as prisoners of war.
