  Donald McIvor was the son of Malcolm McIvor (1875-1965) and Bernice Lenore (Brown) McIvor (1880-1960), 
  of Ellershouse, Hants Co., Nova Scotia. His father was also born in Ellershouse, NS and his parents were 
  married in Newport, Hants County. Donald was from a large family with nine siblings.
  Donald joined HMS Bramble on September 5, 1942. The Bramble was a a Halcyon-class minesweeper 
  (officially, "fleet minesweeping sloop") of the Royal Navy. The ship was sunk by the German destroyer 
  Friedrich Eckoldt in the Barents Sea on December 31, 1942, while escorting convoy JW-51B to Russia. 121 
  men were lost.
