Prior to his enlistment he was a second year Commerce student at Mt. Allison University, Sackville, NB. While at university he served as a COTC Cadet (1941-1942). He enlisted with the University Air Training Corps (Special Reserve) Mt. Allison Squadron. While training at Camp Borden, Leading Aircraftman Colquhoun was killed in a flying accident during night solo flying when his aircraft crashed.
