He was a student at Mt Allison University, New Brunswick prior to his enlistment. Flight Sergeant Cullen died on August 16, 1942 in No. 34 General Hospital, Freetown, West Africa from injuries sustained in a flying accident during training at RAF Hastings. His aircraft (Wellington MK IC No. HX/603) crashed and burned at take-off.
