Elmer George Garrioch Able Seaman V/22262 Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve HMCS Valleyfield July 22, 1917 Toronto, Ontario September 13, 1940 Toronto, Ontario May 7, 1944 26 Halifax Memorial Panel 11     Commemorated on page 312 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance  Displayed in the Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower in Ottawa on July 2 Able Seaman Garrioch was the son of John Edward and Mabel G. Garrioch, of Toronto, Ontario and the  husband of Edith Garrioch, of Halifax, Nova Scotia.  He was married in Halifax on September 3, 1942.  He joined the Navy in 1940 and served on the HMCS Assiniboine between November 24, 1942 and April 30, 1944.  He was on HMCS Valleyfield for passage only on May 1, 1944.  He was missing and presumed dead when the ship was torpedoed and sunk by enemy action in the Atlantic on May 7, 1944.
