Hector was the son of James and Mary McNeil of Glace Bay, NS. He married Margaret Ann Lines on April
15, 1942 in London, at Corpus Christi church, Westminster, London, England. He was the father of
Barbara Ann McNeil, born January 14, 1943 and a second child born after his death.
While serving in Italy, Gunner McNeil was killed by a bullet accidentally fired from a pistol by a fellow
Gunner.
