Grave 23 Commemorated on Page 330 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance Displayed in the Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower in Ottawa on July 17 Robert Densmore Harvey was the son of James William Harvey (1885-1953) and Celia Ethel (Densmore) Harvey (1890-1971) and the husband of Myrtle Evelyn (Rooney) Harvey, of Hantsport, Hants Co. NS. He was married with RCAF permission on January 27, 1943 in Mt. Denson, NS. He completed air training in Canada and was taken on strength with 162 Squadron RCAF on May 15, 1943 serving in Yarmouth and Dartmouth prior to being stationed in Iceland on January 2, 1944. He was assigned to Wick, Scotland on July 25, 1944. On July 29, 1944, Vickers Consolidated Canso (#11062) aircraft operating out of Wick with a crew of eight was returning to base from a anti-submarine patrol. Flying in bad weather and poor visibility the aircraft flew into the side of a hill on Foula Island. Seven airmen were lost including Warrant Officer Class II Robert Densmore Harvey. One badly injured crew member RAF Flight Sergeant J.H. Knight survived the crash.
