Pelly (1851-1924) and Elizabeth Alice (Kendall) Pelly (1848-1926) of Trenton, Pictou Co., Nova Scotia, and the husband of Alice Victoria (Kendell) Pelly (1896- 1928) of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He was the father of Florence Ethel Jane Pelly (1915-1998), Shirley Minnie Pelly (1916-1998), Edith Alice May Pelly (1917-1962), Alexandra Muriel Blanche Pelly (1918-2000), and Jessie Grace Emily Pelly (1919- 2009). Ernest married Alice on January 3, 1915. 6 years after his first wife’s death in 1928, Ernest remarried Lillian May (Payzant) Young (1875-1940) on November 21, 1934, in Bedford, Halifax, NS. Lillian died the same year as Ernest on October 23, 1940. Seaman Pelly served aboard the SS Lerwick, a British steam-powered cargo ship built in 1938. During the Second World War, the ship served as an armed merchant vessel. At the time, it was owned by Muir, Young SS Co. Ltd. of London, England. Assistant Cook Pelly died at Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas, of bilateral bronchopneumonia following a prostatectomy, and was interred in Houston at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. He is also remembered on the grave marker of his first wife Alice Victoria Kendell Pelly at the Abercrombie Cemetery in Pictou Co., Nova Scotia.
