Following training in Canada Boyd Dakin went overseas arriving in the United Kingdom in September 1941. He was assigned to 415 Squadron on November 29, 1941. He was serving as air gunner on aircraft Hampdon AT245 of 415 Squadron that failed to return from operations against enemy shipping off the Dutch coast June 28, 1942
