  Valerie David Legacy was the son of Joseph Isaac Legacy and Margaret Jane (LeBlanc) Legacy of 
  Amherst, Nova Scotia.  He attended St. Charles Catholic School between 1926 and 1934 and Amherst 
  Senior High School between 1935 and 1938.  In 1938, he completed three months of Commercial 
  School, and was employed as a clerk, part time until 1939 when he was employed as a Junior Clerk at 
  the Royal Bank of Canada.  
  Sports interests included skating, basketball, bowling, tennis and swimming.
  Warrant Officer Legacy began his training with the RCAF on July 21, 1940 in Toronto and served in 
  various locations across Canada receiving his Pilots Flying Badge on March 5, 1941. 
  On January 6, 1942, he was assigned to No. 13 Service Flying Training School RCAF, a RAF flight training 
  unit at RCAF Station St Hubert, Quebec.  
  Warrant Officer Legacy was the pilot of Harvard Aircraft 
  #3090 with pupil LAC Joseph Charles Theoret (R/108354) 
  engaged in a night duel instructional flight.  The aircraft 
  became lost in foggy weather and crashed into the side of a 
  rugged mountain near Malone, New York at approximately 
  11:30 pm.  Both men were killed. 
  The Harvard Aircraft #3090 was one of four planes that 
  crashed near Malone on the night of June 16, 1942.  Each 
  plane carried two men.  Pilot Officer Robert Andrew 
  Thomson, age 22, of Guelph, Ontario was also killed.
  Five others survived.
