  Howard was the son of Leonard Whitmore Pye (1871-1935) and Ida Alexandria (Hartling) Pye (1889-
  1978), and the husband of Elizabeth Violet (Knight) Pye (1921-2005). 
  Howard had six siblings, Alma Kathleen Pye (1909–1959), Stuart Allison Pye (1910–1994), Amy Rebecca 
  (Pye) Ward (b. 1912), Caroline Davison (Pye) Hatton (1916–1999), Ida Leone (Pye) Fullham (b. 1917), 
  and Margaret Jane Pye (b. 1919).
  Howard enlisted in June of 1941. After training in Canada, and married Elizabeth on September 24, 
  1942, he departed Canada on October 28, 1942, disembarking in the UK November 5, 1942. His wife 
  was living at 206 Grafton St, Halifax NS, and later moved to 166 Jubilee Road.
    
  He was serving with the 1st Canadian 
  Ordnance Beach Detachment of the Royal 
  Canadian Ordnance Corps in the Scotland at 
  the time of his death. 
  He was admitted to hospital on January 22, 
  1943, with a cerebral hemorrhage and 
  septicemia, and died of a heart attack two 
  days later January 24, 1943 at 5:28 pm.  
  Private Howard Leslie Pye was interred at the 
  Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, 
  England. 
  Brookwood Military Cemetery is owned by the 
  Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is 
  the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in 
  the United Kingdom, covering approximately 
  37 acres.
