Remembering Ronald Morrison Greaser and Cleaner on the MV Mary Slessor (Liverpool, England) Lost at Sea: February 7, 1943 (Aged 38) Canadian Virtual War Memorial Listed on the Halifax Memorial Commemorated on Page 197 of the Merchant Navy Book of Remembrance. Ronald Morrison was born on January 1, 1905 in Sydney Nova Scotia, the son of Marie Morrison. In October 1916, Ronald (age 10) and his mother (age 45), then living in the United States, sailed from New York to Liverpool, England, on the SS New York, with their destination Stornoway, Scotland. In January 1942, Ronald married Emma Stewart (1903-1989) in Birkenhead, Cheshire, United Kingdom. They lived at 170 Corporation Rd., Birkenhead. On February 7, 1943, Ronald Morrison was a crew member on the MV Mary Slessor that had sailed from Algiers to Gibraltar en-route to Liverpool, England, carrying general cargo. The ship had a crew compliment of 80 and was part of convoy MKS-7. At 23.59 hours the convoy encountered a mine field laid by U-118 and three ships were lost. The Mary Slessor sank in the Strait of Gibraltar. 32 were lost at sea, including Ronald Morrison. There were 47 survivors, rescued by HMS Landguard and landed in Liverpool.
