  Arthur George Smith was the son of John Edward Smith (1884-1954) and Margaret Ellen (Maillet) Smith 
  (1889-1956), of Ashmore, Digby Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, and the brother of Earl Victor Smith (1909-1977), 
  Fred Smith, Albert James Smith (1921-1979), Charles Edward Smith (1929-2006), Walter Thomas Smith 
  (1914-1914), Marion Elizabeth Smith (1912-1979), Estella Margerite Smith (1916-1984), Elsie Cecilia (Smith) 
  Melanson (1923-2007), and Irene Lucie (Smith) Melanson (1926-2011).
  Arthur’s brother Albert also served in the Canadian Army during WWII, including service in Italy.
  Arthur was working for the Aylesford Cannery Company as a truck driver for 3 years prior to enlistment.
  After enlisting in February of 1942, Arthur trained at the No. 60 Canadian Infantry Basic Training Centre (60 
  CIBTC), also known as Camp 60, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia from March 13 until June 10, 1942. He completed 
  advanced training at A9 Canadian Armoured Corps (Advanced) Training Centre (CACATC) in Borden, Ontario.
  He departed Canada on March 10, 1943, disembarking in the 
  United Kingdom on March 16th. He subsequently departed the 
  UK for the Mediterranean on November 10, 1943, and joined 
  the Cape Breton Highlanders in Italy on November 27, 1943.
  Private Arthur George Smith was killed in action in Italy on 
  May 26, 1944, and is interred at the Cassino War Cemetery.
