  William Yerbury was the son of Bertran Stuart Yerbury and Theresa (Wheeler) Yerbury of Lachine 
  Quebec.  His father was born in England and his mother was born in Canso, Nova Scotia.  
  William completed junior Matriculation at Montreal High School in May 1940.  He enjoyed hockey, track, 
  basketball, and swimming. At enlistment he was assessed as being “intelligent, quick thinking, keen, 
  and ambitious”. 
  He trained in Canada and completed his Wireless Air Gunner Course on November 11, 1940.  He went 
  overseas to the United Kingdom in February 1941 and was assigned to No. 20 Operational Training Unit. 
  On March 14, 1941 and assigned to No. 10  Operational Training Unit on April 10, 1941.
  Sergeant Yerbury was killed when the aircraft, Armstrong Whitworth Whitley V (N1474) crashed during a 
  daytime training operation from RAF Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. The aircraft, after climbing to 150 
  feet dived and crashed onto East house, an officers married quarters, bursting into flames. All four 
  members of the crew were killed.

  Sergeant Yerbury was buried in the Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey, England.
