Russell Adamson was born July 24, 1915, in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, the son of David William Adamson and Annie Laura Warner. He was the husband of Clara Mae MacDonald (1912-1990) of Bridgeport, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. They were married on November 16, 1937 in Glace Bay, NS. A daughter, Joan Delores Adamson was born February 13, 1940. Joan died September 18, 2014. Russell joined the Merchant Navy and was serving on the SS Albert Le Borgne as a Fireman. He enlisted as a fireman of the ship which was part of a convoy from Sydney, Nova Scotia, in November 1940. On December 21, 1940, the ship was anchored in the River Mersey at Liverpool, England. Russell was working in course of his duties in close proximity to the ship when he was killed during a German bombing raid. His body was removed to the Liverpool Mortuary. He was buried in the Liverpool (Anfield) Cemetery, Lancashire, England. His name is listed on the Halifax Memorial; however, when his actual burial site was located an appropriate headstone was placed on his grave site.
