Lawrence Malcolm Boyd was the son of Alexander Hugh Boyd (1887-1974) and Catherine Ann (MacEachern)
Boyd (1887-1989) of Glendale, Inverness Co., NS, and the brother of Andrew John Boyd (1917-2009), Margaret
Loretta Boyd (1919-1984), Hugh Francis Boyd (1920-2014), Jessie Boyd (b. 1923), and Alexander Hugh Boyd
(1925-1945).
His brother Hugh Francis Boyd served in the US Army during WWII, and his brother of Alexander Hugh Boyd
served with the Canadian Army overseas in the Algonquin Regiment and was killed in action on April 17, 1945.
Prior to enlistment, Lawrence worked as a lathe hand for the Ford Motor Company in Windsor, Ontario for 2
years. He completed his basic training at the Canadian Infantry Basic Training Centre (CIBTC) No. 12 in
Chatham, Kent County, Ontario beginning on February 13, 1943, and advanced training at the Canadian
Infantry Training Centre A29 at Camp Ipperwash in Lambton County, Ontario, near Kettle Point, as of June 15,
1943.
Lawrence departed Canada August 25, 1943, and disembarked
in the United Kingdom on September 2, 1943. He subsequently
embarked UK on July 20, 1944, and disembarked in France
July 26, 1944. At the end of 1944, he returned to England, but
once again transferred from the UK to Northwest Europe on
February 10, 1945. He was killed in action March 9, 1945.
Lawrence was initially interred at a Sonsbeck / Xanten
cemetery in Germany (Section J, Row G, Grave 4), and
reinterred at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in
Netherlands (Section V, Row B, Grave 7).
