He was the brother of Hector Weir (b. 1907), John Mitchell (b. 1910), and Frances Adelaide (b. 1914). Abraham attended King’s College School (1932-1934, and the Royal College of Music (1934-1935). He continued his studies and King’s College (Dalhousie), University of London, and Dalhousie University until 1940. He completed a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma in English Language and Literature, and prior to enlistment was completing a Master of Arts. He was a member of the Haliburton Club (Literature Club at King’s College) and participated in swimming, rugby, and track. His hobby was music and playing the organ. While at Dalhousie he was a Cadet with the Canadian Officers Training Corps (COTC). Following enlistment with the RCAF in June, 1940 he completed his Initial Training Course in Regina, Saskatchewan (July 1,1940 - July 27, 1940; Air Observers School in Edmonton, Alberta (September 2, 1940 - November 23, 1940); Armament Training in Mossbank, Saskatchewan (November 25, 1940 - January 4, 1941; and Advanced Air Observers Training at Rivers, Manitoba (January 6, 1941 - February 3, 1941). He obtained his Observer’s Badge on January 4, 1941. Abraham embarked Canada on April 6, 1941, was posted to the RAF Trainees Pool. He served in No. 11 OTU (Operational Training Unit), 12 Squadron, No. 12 OTU, and was assigned to 148 Squadron on October 28, 1941. 148 Squadron was stationed at RAF Kabrit, Egypt. On the night of January 11/12, Abraham Fraser was the Air Observer on 148 Squadron’s Wellington II Z8347 FS- L aircraft from Kabrit, Egypt, on a bombing operation on Buerat El Hsun, Libya. The aircraft was shot down into the Mediterranean by a flak ship off Libya, with the loss of the six member crew.
