Robert Lewis Greer was the son of Ernest Greer and Annie Ruby (Murray) Greer of Rouleau, Saskatchewan. Robert was the
brother of Murray Blake Greer (b. 1921) and Kenneth Greer (b. 1925). Murray served overseas during WWII with the South
Saskatchewan Regiment.
Robert attended Rouleau Public School (1929-1937) and Rouleau High School completing his grade 12 in 1941. He enjoyed hocky,
baseball, and rugby. During summer vacations, Robert worked at J. W .Craig, Sons and Company, Limited, and their
recommendation stated: “ … we have always found him trustworthy and reliable in every way. He is an excellent boy of good
habits and takes well with the public …”
Enlisting in Regina, following his completion of high school education, he began pilot training at N0. 19 Elementary Flying Training
School at RCAF Viren, Manitoba on October 26, 1941. On December 1, 1941 Robert was the pilot of a solo flight in a Tiger Moth
when his plane dived into the ground eleven miles north west of RCAF Virden. The cause of the crash is unknown.
Robert was buried in the ‘Soldier’s Plot of the Regina
Cemetery. The Soldier’s Plot of this cemetery is not
Government owned or controlled.
