Oliver Charles Johnson was the son of Caleb Charles Johnson and Maud (Brine) Johnson, of Uphill, Ontario.
Oliver attended school between 1929 and 1936, completing grade eight. He worked on the farm at home initially, and then in various
occupations that included painting, farming and truck driving. His sport activities included swimming, skating, baseball, football,
rugby, and boxing.
While posted at RCAF Station Rockcliffe, located several miles from Ottawa, Aircraftman 2nd Class Johnson was given a leave pass. On
October 13, 1941, he and Aircraftman 2nd Class J. M. Johnston were hitch-hiking back to Rockcliffe from Montreal. At approximately
9 pm Oliver was struck by a car which was proceeding toward Montreal and which in turn was attempting to overtake and pass
another car proceeding in the same direction. The driver failed to see the two airman on the side of the road and hit Aircraftman 2nd
Class Johnson who died from his injuries. Aircraftman 2nd Class J. M. Johnston was uninjured.
