George Sidney Perry was the son of Samuel Charles Perry and Mary Elizabeth (King) Perry of Lethbridge, Alberta. One of nine children
he had four brothers and four sisters.
He attended Galbraith public school in Lethbridge completing grade eight in 1938 and attended Lethbridge Collegiate technical
studies (grade twelve) until his enlistment in the RCAF. He participated in hockey, softball and rugby. His mother provided permission
for George to enlist at age 17.
Prior to his enlistment with the RCAF, George served eighteen months as an Air Cadet in Lethbridge. George completed RCAF training
in Canada and obtained his Air Gunner Badge on January 28, 1944. He embarked Halifax on March 25, 1944, and disembarked in the
United Kingdom on April 2, 1944. In England he was assigned to No. 10 OTU (Operational Training Unit) on April 25, 1944, and then to
41 Base 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit at RAF Marston Moor on July 14, 1944.
On September 12, 1944, Sergeant Perry was an Air Gunner on Handley Page Halifax II JD380 that departed RAF Riccall to complete air
operations over the North Sea. The aircraft failed to return to base and was lost without a trace. All seven members of the crew were
lost.
