Donald William Sangster was the son of George William Sangster and Mae Elizabeth (Cameron) Sangster of Stratford, Ontario, and
brother of Ronald Sangster. His father was also a machinist.
Prior to his RCAF enlistment, Donald was in the Air Cadets for 1 year, and enjoyed hockey, swimming, and skiing. He also served
in the Reserve Army with the Perth Regiment from July 1942 to March 1943.
After enlistment, Donald completed his Pre-Aircrew Education Course at McGill University of Montréal, Quebec, trained at the
No. 1 Air Gunners Ground Training School (No. 1AGGTS) in Quebec City, Quebec from June 25 – August 7, 1943, and trained at the
No. 9 Bombing and Gunnery School in Mont-Joli, Quebec from August 7 to September 18, 1943, earning his Air Gunner’s Badge on
September 17, 1943.
Sergeant Donald William Sangster was killed February 24, 1944, in an aircraft crash while operating from the RCAF Station at
Mountain View in Ontario.
