Frank was the husband of Clara Mae Smith of Yarmouth NS, married at Yarmouth, on December 10, 1910, and the father of Muriel M. Smith (1914-1991), and Glendon W. Smith (1917-1995). Prior to his military service he was a Master Mariner of the Ellsworth RCMP Patrol Boat (assigned to the Ellesworth RCMP Marine Station). With the He also served with the Inspector of Naval Ordnance, and the Superintendent of Naval Armament Depot. As of November 15, 1943, he was taken on staff of C. in C., Canadian Naval Attaché under Cdr. of the Port for duty with D.E.M.S. (Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships).
