Enlisting at Yarmouth, April 14, 1917, Private Barnes embarked Canada at Halifax in late June, 1917
on the SS Justicia and disembarked at Liverpool, England on July 4, 1917. He went to France with No 24
Company Canadian Forestry Corps on September 8, 1917 and to No 2 District Headquarters on October 15,
1917 were he served as a Clerk (Class 2). He became ill in France and was hospitalized and transferred to
England in October 1918.
He returned to Canada and was discharged on December 18, 1919 at Halifax on demobilization.
Following his military discharge he lived in Yarmouth, NS.
