Benjamin enlisted at Yarmouth, NS with the 165th Battalion and transferred to the Canadian
Forestry Corps. He arrived in England at Liverpool on July 4, 1917. He was taken on strength as Base
Depot Sunningdale and was posted to 71 Company, Canadian Forestry Corps in France on August 12, 1917.
He was invalided to England and posted to the CFC Depot at Sunningdale on January 17, 1919. He
returned to Canada and was discharged on demobilization on August 2, 1919 at Halifax.
