Charles Donald Webb was the son of Henry Edward Webb (1892-1959) and Ada Blanche (Deal) Webb
(1897-1943) of Halifax, Nova Scotia. His father was born in Halifax, and his mother was born in Upper
Musquodoboit, also in Halifax Co., Nova Scotia.
Charles was the brother of Sylpha Dorothy Ellen Webb Bookholt (1919-2008), Norman Edward Webb (b.
1921), Margaret Etta ‘Bunny’ Webb Blackburn (1924-2015), Arthur Russell Webb (1926-2008), Ruby
Eileen Webb (1928-1929), Douglas Lawrence Webb (1932-1997), Norma Edna Webb Gunn (1935-2004),
Sheila Mae Webb Matthews (1939-2007), and Shirley Webb.
Charles’ sister Margaret served in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps
(CWAC) during the Second World War.
During the Korean War, Charles enlisted in January of 1952 and
served with the 1st Regiment of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (1
RCHA).
In May of 1952, the 1 RCHA replaced 2 RCHA in South Korea. In the
25th Brigade in 1952, many raids were conducted by the 1st Battalion
Royal Canadian Regiment (1RCR), supported by 1RCHA’s A Battery. A
bond of mutual admiration grew between the battery and the RCR to
the point where the guns of A Battery had the RCR crest painted on
them.
Gunner Charles Douglas Webb was killed in action in Korea three
months after enlisting, on June 16, 1952, whilst serving with the 1st
Regiment of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.
