Leslie Robert Durkee Sr. was the son of Jesse Morgan Durkee (1860-1927) and Abigail Raymond ‘Abbie’
Crosby Durkee (1862-1904) of Yarmouth Co., NS, and the husband of Marian Harvey (Underwood) Durkee
Moffett (1898-1965).
His children were Sergeant Raymond Jesse Durkee (1923-2008), Second Lieutenant Leslie Robert ‘Les’
Durkee Jr. (1924-1945), Senior Master Sergeant Leon Carl Durkee (1926-2009), and Clayton Allen Durkee
(1930-1996).
Three of his sons served in the US military; and his son, Second Lieutenant Leslie Robert Durkee, served in
the USAAF and was killed in action in China during WWII.
Leslie Sr. registered for the US Draft on September 12, 1918.
Enlisting in mid-1918, he departed the US for France with the American Expeditionary Forces aboard the
SS Cedric on July 6, 1918. He served with I Company of the 301st Infantry Regiment, 76th Division in the
US Army. He was discharged on demobilization, May 12, 1919.
